Welcome to the International Society of Surgery |

The Adelaide Congress was hugely stimulating, and those who attended enjoyed themselves, were able to trade ideas, meet new friends, and experience Australian hospitality. On behalf of the Society I would like to thank the Australian Local Organizing Committee, and the staff in our own office in Lupsingen for their efforts. Our immediate Past President, Michael Sarr was tireless in his efforts both for the International Surgical Week, and for the Society. On your behalf I would like to say how much we appreciate his efforts. Felix Harder has retired as Secretary General of the organization after 8 years of service to your organization. On behalf of the organization I thank him for his efforts and wish him well. He will continue his association so we can use his valuable experience. Jean-Claude Givel has joined as Secretary General and we welcome him. The next International Surgical Week will be in Yokohama in 2011. We are already planning an extensive program, and would like to introduce as many of our members as possible to the spectacular country of Japan. For those who have never visited it could be the experience of a lifetime. Watch this website for developing details. The ISS/SIC is a global organization. We aim to provide a forum for those with specialty interests, as well as for those who have wide general interests. Through our constituent Societies we represent multiple specialist organizations in the field of general surgery: The International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), The International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC), Breast Surgery International (BSI) and the International Association for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition (IASMEN). We have a close association with the International Society of Digestive Surgery (ISDS), as well as our Participating Societies. Details are on this website. We are working hard to make the Society a world leader in Surgical Education, and towards improving the quality of surgical care world-wide. We have a duty to reach out, both to our colleagues who are working under resource challenged conditions, and to our patients who are our ultimate beneficiaries. If you would like to be part of this mission, join the International Society. Every one of us has something to contribute in this regard – ideas, advice, expertise and passion. With your help we can make a difference. Ken Boffard |
